Local officials are hoping to avoid another dispute over emergency services in unincorporated Calumet Township.
Lake County Council President Ted Bilski discussed the Lake Ridge Fire Protection District during Tuesday's council meeting. "We've had quite a few issues over there with ambulance service, with the fire contracting agency. It's been brought to our attention that they are not working with the ambulance. . . . There's an issue with the ambulances being in the same building, Bilski explained.
But fire protection district board member Tanya Tribble told council members they're close to reaching an agreement. "We've come to a very mutual understanding, including the ambulance. We left it in the addendum — because they have a lease in the building — that we will discuss it. They know, hopefully, that we're getting an ambulance, that's it's going to be coming, and everyone is willing to work together," Tribble said.
Bilski said the Lake Ridge Fire Protection District has had nothing but problems during his entire time on the county council, and he's tired of dealing with it. "If we have to look at financing this and contracting the entire thing out and eliminating the ordinance, it's not opposed to me. My main goal is to make sure that the citizens that live in that area have the best fire protection and ambulance services necessary without any of the drama," Bilski added.
No action is required from the county council, unless additional funding is needed, but council members agreed to keep the issue on their June 14 agenda.
