Merrillville property owners impacted by COVID can get up to $10,000 to fix buildings

Northwest Indiana Photos website

Merrillville property owners can get up to $10,000 to upgrade their buildings. The town is using funding from the American Rescue Plan to offer Residential & Business Improvement grants.

It will cover up to half the cost of the project, up to $5,000 for owner-occupied homes and up to $10,000 for businesses. That could include exterior upgrades, like repairing roofs, doors and walls. Businesses may also be eligible for funding for interior upgrades.

To qualify, property owners have to prove that they were financially impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. They also have to agree not to sell their home or business for three years after getting the grant. Funds will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.
