Merrillville Police are investigating, after customers at a business on Broadway had their vehicles booted. Police Chief Wiley Luther Cuttino says a business hired a towing firm to watch its parking lot during a construction project, but apparently failed to consult Indiana Code or the town's ordinances.

"People were visiting an adjacent business, and when they came out, they found their car to have a boot on it. And not only it had a boot on it, they were requested to come up with money on-site to remove that boot. And so I'm asking if anyone in the public that experienced that, to reach out to the Merrillville Police Department because we need to address this issue," Cuttino said during Tuesday's town council meeting.

Council President Rick Bella also asked the Council Affairs Committee and Town Attorney Joe Svetanoff to explore the issue further.
