Construction on Hammond's Hohman and Kennedy Avenue projects is scheduled to start this week.
"As you know, [American Rescue Plan] funds are being use for both of those projects, $5 million each," Corporation Counsel Kevin Smith told the city council last week.
The goal of both projects is to slow down traffic, widen sidewalks and make the areas more friendly to pedestrians.
The city council also moved ahead with the tax abatement process for a new downtown residential development. Rimbach Square will bring more than 200 apartments to the corner of Rimbach and Hohman. The council confirmed its declaration of an economic revitalization area. The next step is to consider an economic development target area designation.
