COVID-19 spread remains low in Northwest Indiana, but some places are seeing an increase.
Lake, Porter, LaPorte and Jasper counties are again coded blue on this week's County Metrics Map from the Indiana Department of Health. That indicates a low community spread, based on the positivity rate and number of cases per capita.
But Newton County moved up to yellow, indicating a moderate spread. It currently has Indiana's second-highest positivity rate at 8.2 percent. That's the highest level in almost a month but still far lower than the levels seen in January.
All of Northwest Indiana is coded green on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's Community Levels map, which also incorporates hospital admissions and capacity. Indiana's COVID-19 hospitalizations remain at their lowest level since last July.
