Region school districts awarded STEM Acceleration Grants

Indiana Department of Education

Some Northwest Indiana school corporations have gotten funding to boost their science, technology, engineering and math programs. The School City of Hammond was awarded $100,000 in STEM Acceleration Grant funding from the Indiana Department of Education. The Griffith and LaPorte school corporations each got about $75,000.

The Department of Education says schools were encouraged to focus this round of grant applications on learning for students most impacted by COVID-related disruptions. A total of $2.6 million was awarded to 48 school districts and charter schools in this round of STEM Acceleration Grants.

It's one of many initiatives underway to help schools boost STEM education, according to the IDOE. Many of the schools awarded funding are also working to become STEM Certified Schools.
