The Merrillville Town Council has granted zoning approval for a pair of large-scale developments.
A 195-acre property along both sides of Mississippi north of 101st was rezoned to a Commercial/Industrial Special District. Council Member Shawn Pettit says that will pave the way for the Silos at Sanders Farm industrial park.
"This will enable Crowe Holdings to begin developing the second-largest industrial park in the Town of Merrillville behind Ameriplex," Pettit explained.
Meanwhile, Luxor Homes' Liberty Estates development will be able to move forward near U.S. 30 and Whitcomb, after the council agreed to change the zoning from Highway Commercial to a Planned Unit Development.
"This is on approximately 200 acres, and it's going to be apartments, single-family, duplexes," said planning and building director Sheila Shine.
The development got a favorable recommendation from the neighboring Heritage North Homeowners Association.
