The City of Valparaiso is preparing for some future road improvements. The stretch of Harrison Boulevard where it intersects with Yellowstone Road on a reverse curve near Discovery Cottage needs some help, according to Mayor Matt Murphy. "That's a crazy intersection. It's busy, and it's well-needed," Murphy told the board of works last week.
Last week, the board agreed to hire Abonmarche to conduct a topographic survey for $8,000. That will let the city's engineering department evaluate different improvement options.
Meanwhile, the city is also taking steps to extend Memorial Drive in the coming years. "That road currently stubs out by St. Mary's, and though there's no timeline for this, the intent is to potentially move that road further south," City Attorney Patrick Lyp told board members.
Property owner Patko has agreed to dedicate the necessary right of way, which was approved by the board of works during last week's meeting.
