Merrillville officials approve $6 million bond for paving work, equipment purchases

The Town of Merrillville has agreed to fund another round of paving projects. A $6 million bond issuance was approved by the town council and redevelopment commission Tuesday.

Shawn Pettit is the redevelopment commission president and council member for Ward 2. "The purpose of those funds would be street paving in Ward 2, street paving in Ward 6, and the purchase of approximately a million dollars worth of public works equipment," he told the rest of the council.

Pettit says the project will cover the roads with the lowest PASER ratings, similar to what was done in the town's other five wards last year.
