The City of Valparaiso has a new roadmap for the coming years. Mayor Matt Murphy announced the completion of a new strategic plan during Monday's city council meeting.
"We continue working collectively each day to move Valparaiso forward. We see this plan as another tool that helps guide our way," he told council members.
The plan includes seven overall priorities: public safety, infrastructure, quality of life, recreation, fiscal health, operational improvements and business. A number of the specific action steps aim to continue developing Valpo's downtown, balancing the demands for housing, retail, dining, and convenient parking.
The plan also tries to meet the needs of older residents by encouraging the development of senior housing, as well as recreation opportunities. Another action item calls for the city to develop a "fresh brand" to attract new business and tourism.
