Obama visiting Indiana for rally between Trump's twin visits

GARY, Ind. (AP) — Indiana Democrats are bringing in former President Barack Obama to counter the campaigning by President Donald Trump in the state's contentious U.S. Senate race.

The state Democratic Party says Obama will speak during a rally Sunday at the Genesis Convention Center in Gary in support of Democratic Sen. Joe Donnelly's re-election bid.

Obama's Indiana trip will happen in between Trump's political rallies set for Friday in Indianapolis and Monday in Fort Wayne. Those will be Trump's third and fourth Indiana rallies this year aimed at boosting Republican Mike Braun in his bid to unseat Donnelly.

The high-profile campaigning is a sign of the tight race between Donnelly and Braun as Tuesday's election result could help determine whether Republicans retain their narrow Senate majority.
