JIM McCARTY REFLECTS ON 50 YEARS AS A YARDBIRD

This edition “MIDWEST BEAT with Tom Lounges” originally aired on September 10, 2013.

This program features a call in from England by Rock And Roll Hall of Famer JIM McCARTY – drummer and co-founder of the legendary British Invasion group THE YARDBIRDS — as Tom’s musical guest.

THE YARDBIRDS’ place in rock ‘n’ roll history is cemented by being the launching pad for three of the greatest guitarist of all time — Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck and Jimmy Page. But aside from giving the world three top guitar-slingers, the band also gave the world many great songs while helping spearhead the British Invasion of America during the mid-1960s alongside The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, and The Kinks.

JIM McCARTY called in to discuss the famous string-benders he has worked with in the ranks of the YARDBIRDS while reflecting back on the group’s five decades in music and their upcoming concert on Friday, September 13 at ARCADA THEATRE in St. Charles, IL.  Jim also talked about his ongoing solo career and along with a variety of  vintage and recent YARDBIRDS’ recordings, Tom closes out the program with a tasty McCarty solo tune that features his friend, guitarist STEVE HACKETT of GENESIS fame.  This is show not to miss.   Because of the trans-Atlantic call, there are a few portions where Jim’s audio is a little muffled, but the show rocks nonetheless!
