Woman Charged For Hitting Man along I-94, Leaving Body
September 10, 2013 — A Portage woman faces a reckless homicide charge for the hit-and-run death of a 50-year-old Laporte man whose body was found along I-94 last month.
Patricia Callahan turned herself in to Chicago police Friday and was extradited to Porter County, where the prosecutor is charging her with leaving the scene of an accident that resulted in death, reckless homicide, and insurance fraud.
Roadside mowing crews found the body of Ricky Kimble on August 6 in a ditch just south of Interstate 94 in Portage.
Court documents show Callahan told her insurer she struck a deer and construction equipment that caused more than $4400 in damage to her car. Employees at the body shop where Callahan took her car told police the vehicle damage was consistent with it striking a person.
Ricky Kimble was reported missing August 5 by his girlfriend. An autopsy on Kimble showed injuries consistent with being struck by a vehicle at a high rate of speed.
Callahan is currently in the Porter County Jail awaiting a formal court appearance this week.
