A winter storm is mixing more than a foot of snow in Lake County with northerly wind to create driving condition dangers that has caused two interstate closures.
Indiana Department of Transportation has closed I-65 for 81 miles in both directions for “extremely hazardous driving conditions” from Exit 172 at Lafayette to Exit 253 for US Highway 30 in Merrillville. INDOT expected the closure to remain overnight.
INDOT also expects the same closure time frame for I-80/94, for the same reason, closed in both directions in Northwest Indiana. INDOT has closed I-80/94, from US 6 at Munster to Exit 16 for I-80/94 and I-90’s Indiana Toll Road at Lake Station.
It also has closed I-94 in both directions with a closure of I-80/94 from Lake Station to Exit 34, eight miles east of Chesterton, blocking all lanes for “extremely hazardous driving contitions” for the next half day.
