Website Set Up For School Bus Inspections

July 10, 2013 — Parents will now be able to see if their child’s school bus passed state inspection through a new website developed by the Indiana State Police. Indiana Public Broadcasting’s Brandon Smith reports:

While school bus inspection reports have long been public record, a new tool accessed through the State Police website makes it easier for parents to view that information. All they need to find the records is their child’s school bus number. State Police spokesman Dave Bursten says parents can then easily see whether the bus passed the yearly inspection and what kinds of problems were found:

There are different types of violations that can happen. There are out-of-service violations, which would be serious mechanical issues, that the bus should not be used to transport until it’s fixed and then there are orders for repair and those are typically minor items that don’t impact the safety of the bus.”

Bursten says the new website was developed by the State Police and a private contractor at no extra cost to taxpayers. For Indiana Public Broadcasting, I’m Brandon Smith.
