March 4 — Visitors can return to some area hospital halls starting today.

Due to the low number of positive influenza cases throughout the local area and state, Indiana University Health has lifted previous visitor restrictions.

The restrictions have been lifted at IU Health La Porte and Starke hospitals, IU Health Lakeshore Surgicare and all rehabilitation facilities. The lift is effective immediately.

Local facilities implemented the precautionary measures of visitor restrictions to protect patients, families and colleagues from unnecessary potential exposure to the flu virus in mid-January.

IU Health continues to encourage all visitors to use their best judgment when visiting a loved one in the hospital. In order to protect patients, visitors should be healthy. In addition, all are encouraged to wash their hands or use hand sanitizer often.
