Van Til Due In Court Monday Morning
Lake County Surveyor George Van Til is to appear in federal court today to answer to wire fraud and obstruction of justice charges, for allegedly using county equipment and staffers during his 20-08 and 20-12 re-election campaigns.
Federal officials believe VanTil used county employees and resources as part of his 20-08 and 20-12 re-election campaign. The indictment states that among the allegations, VanTil paid an employee $100 to remove a hard drive from a county computer.
Van Til’s attorney Scott King says he’ll defend his client against the federal indictment, noting that he’s had a “long and distinguished career” in Lake County. Van Til has served as county surveyor for 20 years. King said that during the investigation, we’ve maintained he’s not committing any offense, and we maintain that now.
