Valpo Turkey Trot 5K Gets Underway Thursday
November 26, 2014 — The Porter-Starke Services Foundation will host its annual Valparaiso Turkey Trot 5K walk/run and 10K race on Thursday.
Both events begin at the Valparaiso High School Field House, 2727 N. Campbell Street in Valparaiso.
In 2011, the Valparaiso Turkey Trot became the largest race in Northwest Indiana. In 2012 and 2013, it retained that status with a total of 3,300 and 3,600 participants respectively. It is projected to have a total of 4,000 runners and walkers this year.
The event will mark the fifth straight year that the event is hosted by the Porter-Starke Services Foundation. All proceeds from the race will support mental health and substance abuse treatment and prevention programming.
It is the non-profit organization’s largest fundraising event each year. Participants are encouraged to share what they are thankful for, read course signage about the ways to monitor and improve their mental health and enjoy the experience/take photographs with their family and friends. The event also features a costume contest.
The tentative Race Day Schedule is as follows:
