August 26, 2014 – Almost 1,000 new undergraduate students will be hitting Valparaiso University’s (VU) campus when classes begin today for 2014’s fall semester, according to Nicole Niemi, the school’s Director of Media Relations. With an expected total enrollment of nearly 4,525 students, it’s the largest the university will welcome in 34 years.

Michael Joseph, vice president of Enrollment Management, commented “It’s an exciting time of positive momentum at Valpo, and we continue to recruit, enroll and retain remarkable students of outstanding character.”

With expected total enrollment growth across disciplines, the University expects to see increases in the College of Arts and Sciences, the College of Business, the College of Engineering, and the College of Nursing and Health Professions.

The academic year kicks off with the 86th annual Opening Convocation. During the service, all new students will be invited to sign the student-initiated Honor Code. According to a statement released by the University, the pledge, which states, “I have neither given or received, nor have I tolerated others’ use of unauthorized aid,” signifies the students’ commitment to hold themselves and others to the highest standard.

VU also expects record enrollment for the Graduate School. Of the roughly 260 incoming graduate students, 36 different countries are represented. The Law School also expects to welcome 174 new students.
