Valparaiso surges past Eastern Kentucky 72-66
RICHMOND, Ky. — Alec Peters scored 21 points — all on 3-pointers — and Valparaiso used a late surge to race past Eastern Kentucky 72-66 on Wednesday.
Valpo (8-1) was up five with 6:22 left in the game then ran off 13 straight points to take control of it. Peters had a pair of 3s in the run.
Valpo jumped out early and led 23-11 with 11:30 left in the first half after 3-pointers on back-to-back possessions from Peters and Darien Walker. But Eastern Kentucky erased the advantage just as quickly with a 9-0 run — all on 3s — one by Jonathan Hood and a pair by Timmy Knipp. Valpo led 32-30 at intermission.
Peters was 7 of 8 from beyond the arc and had seven rebounds. Tevonn Walker had 15 points and Vashil Fernandez added 12 points. The Crusaders were 11 of 21 on 3-pointers.
Knipp led Eastern Kentucky (4-2) with 16 points.
