Valparaiso Chamber of Commerce Honored
The business community throughout Lake and Porter Counties is celebrating statewide success after the Valparaiso Chamber of Commerce received the Indiana Chamber of the Year award. Renetta Dubose has the story….
Renetta: A mixture of the right business practices is one reason a panel of independent, out-of-state judges picked the Valparaiso Chamber of Commerce as the 20-13 Indiana Chamber of the Year.
Rex Richards: Our financial records, our membership growth, success.
Chamber President Rex Richards attributes the win…the Chamber’s second since 2005…to the implementation of two programs. He says one program honored 21 companies that made physical facility improvements last year. the second was its business appreciation luncheon.
Richards: This is a brand new program we did in 2012. We honored the 20 major, largest employers in Porter County because of their significance to the total economic impact in Porter County and Valparaiso.
The Chamber also boasts a strong public policy agenda. Richards says supporting initiatives like the Valparaiso bus system helped the Chamber excel.
Richards: We’ve been strong advocates for state funding for the RDA, Regional Development Authority, to support infrastructure in Porter and Lake Counties.
More than 700 businesses make up the Valparaiso Chamber of Commerce. Richards says those businesses are located in northwest Indiana, Illinois and even Michigan. In Valparaiso…Renetta Dubose, Lakeshore News.
