Urschel Laboratories Working Toward Relocation
A company with more than one hundred years of history in the region is working on relocating its facility.
Urschel Laboratories, which makes food processing equipment, intends to move to a new facility in Chesterton’s Coffee Creek Center near Highway 49. The company’s vice president for real estate, Bill Baker, said that the company launched a nationwide search to find a suitable site for its new plant. But Baker said, ultimately, keeping Urschel’s current employees became a deciding factor in their choice to remain in the region.
The town of Chesterton held a public hearing Monday night to give citizens an opportunity to comment on two resolutions that will allow the town to issue development bonds to help finance the project. Those bonds will be repaid by Urschel through property taxes.
While no residents chose to comment on the plan, Town Councilman Jim Ton… who represents the ward where the new facility will be built… and he says he has received nothing but positive feedback from residents.
