U.S. 30 & Taft in Merrillville Still Closed For Signal Repairs
July 3, 2014 –A major east-west northwest Indiana highway was closed for several hours last night, to allow repair crews to reconnect power and traffic signals that were knocked out by Monday night’s severe thunderstorms.
The Indiana Department of Transportation officially closed U.S. 30, between I-65 and U.S. 41 at 10 p.m. July 2 and remain in place until 10 a.m. Thursday. Most of the work is complete, except at U.S 30 and Taft (SR 55). U.S. 30 and Taft may remain closed throughout the morning hours while INDOT crews replace the signal head.
NIPSCO’s repair of damaged power lines from recent severe weather was completed much earlier than expected, and did not adversely affect the power grid. INDOT traffic signals are on, which was also expected.
