Two CN Crossings To Go Quiet In June

Share Tweet Email

Two Canadian National railroad crossings in Schererville will receive quiet zone designations.

Town officials say when the designations become official, engineers won’t blow their train horns when they approach two at-grade crossings on Kennedy Avenue south of Main Street and at 213th Street near Eagle Ridge Drive.

Delineators recently were installed near the crossings.  They are posts that serve as a vertical barrier and prevent motorists from driving around railroad gates.

Schererville Town Manager Bob Volkmann said when the entire process is finished, the crossings should become quiet by June 5th.  There have been longer trains and more train activity in Schererville ever since Canadian National acquired the Elgin, Joliet & Eastern Railway.
