Top Leadership Changes At Gary Charter School

July 10, 2014 — Three key school leaders have left  Thea Bowman Leadership Academy in Gary, with one year left on its charter with Ball State University.

The “Post-Tribune” reports the charter school’s first principal, Gwen Adell, resigned from her post as chief administrative officer last month. Her contract expired June 30th and the president and CEO of the Chicgo company running the school says her position won’t be filled.

Rubye James, who served as principal at the high school/junior high, resigned along with Alethea Fontleroy, the principal at the elementary/middle school campus.

Bakalis hopes to have new principals hired by Aug. 1st just before the new school year begins.

Thea Bowman Leadership Academy’s struggled in recent years and it received a grade of “D” in 2012-2013. It received a “C” in two previous years.
