Three Lake County E-911 Holdouts Remain
May 30, 2014 — Only three Lake County communities are holding out on a decision on an interlocal agreement creating a countywide emergency 9-1-1 system, as mandated by state officials.
E-911 Commission members learned on Thursday from their attorney that town officials in Cedar Lake, Schererville and St. John have yet to commit to the consolidation. Deadline for consolidation is Dec. 31. Lake County is one of two counties out of 92 in the state that have not completed the consolidation.
Commission consultant Tom Dabertin said the three remaining communities are supposed to have a joint meeting to discuss their next move. The consolidation would bring the emergency dispatch centers of all 18 cities and towns into one facility to be built near the Lake County Jail in Crown Point.
The town of Highland is the latest community to sign off on the interlocal agreement.
