Task Force Takes Toddler Murder Case
September 10, 2013 — (AP) A task force is reviewing a 2008 shooting that killed a 13-month-old boy.
Lake County Prosecutor Bernard Carter tells The Times that the Northwest Indiana Major Crimes Task Force will meet with his staff and the Gary police officials this week to discuss the death of Josiah Shaw.
The boy’s mother, Kwana Shaw, was buckling her son into her SUV on Jan. 28, 2008 when a man shot her. Josiah was shot in the chin and pelvis and died from his injuries.
No one has been charged in the death. Shaw has filed a civil lawsuit against the boy’s father and uncle.
Carter says he hopes the task force can help determine what’s still needed to support criminal charges in the case.
