Storms Hit Region…More Than 30,000 Without Power

June 12, 2013 – A series of strong storms marked by heavy rain and high winds moved through Northwest Indiana on Wednesday evening, leaving tens of thousands of Lake County residents without power. Nipsco was reporting more than 34,000 customers without power. Crown Point was hit hardest, with more 14,000 power outages, according to Nipsco’s website. More than 4500 Merrillville residents and more than 2000 in Lowell also were without power as of 10:30 pm Wednesday.
