Firestone’s money is one source of revenue for Taylor, who finally launches an all-out assault on Liberia’s capital Monrovia. West African jets hunting for Taylor bomb a soccer field near the plantation. Around 40 people are killed, none of them fighters. The plantation closes again, until 1996. Taylor runs for president, and is elected in hopes the violence will end.
