July 16, 2014

We invite back Anne Balay, author of Steel Closets, a book about Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Steelworkers. The book talked about the resistance of the United Steelworkers to deal with LGBT issues. Recently a group of USW locals have begun passing resolutions and plan to be at the agenda for the Steelworkers National Conference.

We also talk to the new superintendent of East Chicago Public Schools. He takes over a district that has just gone through consolidation, and will have to come up with additional plans to handle some of its struggling schools. The city has also had a string on superintendents recently.

Guests include:

Youssef Yomtoov, superintendent East Chicago Public Schools

Anne Balay, author of Steel Closets: Voices of Gay, Lesbian, and Transgender Steelworkers

Pete Trinidad, VP United Steel Workers 6787

Jan Gentry, retired steelworker from NWI and openly lesbian
