State education officials and the Indiana National Guard gave away more than 5,000 new and donated children’s book to Hoosier families through the course of the Indiana State Fair.
The Department of Education hosted the giveaway in cooperation with the guard’s Books and Boots program.
“Through the Hoosier Family of Readers, the department has worked to build a culture of readers throughout Indiana,” state Superintendent Glenda Ritz said in a statement.
“We have over 260 partners throughout the state and the state fair was a great opportunity to showcase this great work,” she said. “Finally, I want to thank the men and women of the Indiana National Guard that have been working with the department to promote after-school reading programs for our youngest students.”
