Staffing Shortages Affect New Aquatic Center At Park

July 18, 2013 — BATTLE GROUND, Ind. (AP) — The new aquatic center at a state park near West Lafayette is facing staff shortages because of the large crowds it has drawn.

Officials closed the Lazy River and water slides at Prophetstown State Park on Monday and Tuesday, saying they weren’t sure they could have the needed 10 lifeguards on duty at all times.

Park manager Jason Getz said he knows some visitors were upset by the decision, but he believed it was best for their  safety.

The water park opened July 1st and has repeatedly met its 700-person capacity.

Park officials are working to hire more lifeguards and other staffers for the aquatic center.
