Dr. Larry A. Brechner
Auditorium Director For Munster High School
Dr. Larry A Brechner has served on Lakeshore Public Media Board of Directors since 1999, and was frequently seen as a regular television pledge drive host or auctioneer for the station since 1993.
Larry is the Auditorium Director (an administrative position) for the School Town of Munster’s 1000-seat Munster Auditorium, hosting nearly 70 events per season including the Northwest Indiana Concert Association six concert season. He also is the producer/director of the Munster Theatre Company, producing two major musicals and two full-length plays per season.
Larry has over forty years of professional and educational theater experience as an award winning lighting designer and musical theater director. He holds a Doctor of Fine Arts (DFA) degree in Theatre Studies. He received his Bachelor and Master of Arts degrees from Purdue University Calumet in Radio/TV/Theater Production and Management.
Larry was inducted into the Indiana Thespian Hall of Fame in January 2016 for his over forty years of educational theater directing work. In 2010, Purdue University Calumet honored him with the Alumni Leadership Award recognizing outstanding alumni from various fields of study plus he received Purdue Calumet’s Distinguished Corporate/Community Service Award in 1997. In 1999, he received the Distinguished Leadership Award from the National Association for Community Leadership. Larry is a voting member for the recording industry’s Grammy Awards since 1980.
Larry served as an adjunct professor at Calumet College, a fine art photographer with numerous gallery exhibits and book credits, a licensed Amateur Extra Class radio operator and instrument-rated commercial pilot and ground instructor.
