Sheriff’s Request For New Vehicles To Be Reviewed March 20

The Lake County Commissioners asked Sheriff John Buncich for more information last month about his request to buy 16 more vehicles as part of his department’s replacement program.  That information will come up when the Sheriff turns in his $375-thousand request for the Commissioners’ March 20th meeting.  Commissioner Gerry Scheub told Lakeshore This Morning news anchor Chris Nolte that there was nothing wrong with Buncich’s initial request…it’s just that it was way above the $75-thousand that the county can spend without going out for competitive bids.  That is state Board of Accounts policy.

Buncich said he wants to buy five Ford Interceptor utility all-wheel drive Explorers and six Ford Interceptor all-wheel drive Taurus sedans for $285,825 from Paul Heuring Ford, and five Dodge Avengers for $90,970 from Thomas Dodge.   Scheub says the sheriff did not use the state-approved procurement list.
