Indiana State Police say a 43-year-old Crown Point man who is a Lake County Sheriff’s deputy faces a felony charge of official misconduct, in connection with a probe into a report of sexual assault more than three months ago.

A local grand jury indicted Sam Orlich, Junior on Thursday.  He was booked into the Lake County Jail and released Friday after he posted a cash bond.  A formal court appearance has yet to be scheduled.

State Police spokesperson Sgt. Ann Wojas said the investigation into Orlich began on September 19,  when a 37-year-old Lowell woman came into the nearby State Police Post to report an alleged sexual misconduct.

Orlich has been on administrative leave since the complaint was filed.
