Sheriff: Newlywed Stops to Help Motorist, Both Killed
December 15, 2013 — Lake County Sheriff John Buncich says a newly married man and a stranded motorist he stopped to help were killed when they were hit near Crown Point. Authorities the incident occurred while the man was on his way to a hotel with his new wife after their reception.
The Chicago Sun-Times reports 49-year-old William Knight was driving with his wife, Nikki, about 11:45 p.m. last night when they saw a woman who had slid off the road in the snow near Crown Point.
The Lake County sheriff’s office says Knight and 42-year-old Linda Darlington, both of Crown Point, were standing by the side of the road when they were struck by one vehicle, and then two more. They were pronounced dead at the scene.
Knight’s wife, who had stayed in their vehicle, was not injured.
