Sheriff Asks State to Demolish Some Gary Buildings

September 20, 2013 — Lake County’s sheriff is asking for state help to demolish Gary houses used for criminal activity.

Sheriff John Buncich is awaiting an answer to a letter he sent to Governor Mike Pence this week making that request.

He says his request follows conversations with state police who are evaluating crime control efforts in Gary.  That evaluation came at the request of Gary Mayor Karen Freeman-Wilson, who supports demolition of some abandoned buildings.

Buncich asked Pence to send Indiana National Guard personnel and equipment to start a demolition program.
