CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (AP) — Both Kansas basketball coach Bill Self and Kansas State coach Bruce Weber are expected to attend the funeral for former Illinois assistant coach Wayne McClain in Champaign.

McClain died last week in an Urbana hospital at age 60. Family members said he had lung cancer. The service is planned for noon Wednesday.

Self hired McClain at Illinois and Weber kept McClain on the Illini staff when he took over for Self. McClain also spent a year working for Weber at Kansas State.

McClain made his name as a coach at Peoria Manual High School. He won three straight state championships in the 1990s as head coach there.

McClain was head coach at Champaign Central High School when he died.
