Today on Regionally Speaking: a conversation with the CEO of Strack and Van Til, Inc., Jeff Strack, about the supermarket business in northwest Indiana.  It’s a business that has been changing in recent years, especially because of added competition from outside companies as well as the social and digital media explosion.  I talked to Jeff at the SVT, Inc. headquarters in Highland.

Schererville Town Manager Bob Volkmann talks about the planning and work that led to the decision to purchase the now-closed Illiana Speedway to be able to expand the town’s parks and recreation system.  Town officials say they expect to be able to close soon on the purchase, approved at a special Town Council meeting last week.  One of the plans for the land is to expand Rohrman Park, right next door to the Speedway.

Katie Hall of the Lake County Bicentennial Committee joins us to talk about the 30 people selected by state Bicentennial officials to be the Torch Relay torchbearers this fall.  The torch is passing through all 92 Indiana counties and is expected to come into Lake County after passing through Porter County on October 9th.  The torch bearers will travel from Whiting and Hobart on Sunday, October 9th and Crown Point on October 10th.  The Lake county torch route is available for viewing here.

Porter County Bicentennial officials say 50 people have been chosen by the state to be torch bearers when the torch reaches the county line.
