Railcats Win and Tighten Grip on Playoff Spot
August 30, 2013 – Kansas City, KS – Stephen Hiscock pitched into the ninth inning as the RailCats held off a late rally by the T-Bones for a 5-3 win on Thursday night. Gary SouthShore improved to 55-40 with the win, Kansas City dropped to 40-56 with the decision.
With the Winnipeg Goldeyes loss, the RailCats have a two and a half game lead in the wild card heading into Friday’s finale with Kansas City.
Hiscock, attempting to throw his second complete game as a RailCat, allowed back-to-back singles to begin the ninth then struck out Luis Rivera for his eighth in the game. Petey Paramore then worked a nine pitch at-bat and doubled to right-center to score Kennard Jones and make it 5-2. Estevan Uriegas then entered for the ‘Cats and served up a sacrifice fly to left to Felix Molina for the second out in the bottom of the ninth.Zac Mitchell and Brian Kolb each had three hits in the game. Reid Fronk and Mitchell each had a pair of RBI’s.
The RailCats and T-Bones complete their series on Friday night. The RailCats send LHP Alain Quijano (11-7, 4.17 ERA) to the mound; the T-Bones will throw RHP Dustin Loggins (7-5, 4.27 ERA).
