RailCats, U.S. Steel Officials Upbeat On Partnership Extension
The Gary SouthShore Railcats and U-S Steel reached a new ten-year naming rights agreement. The companies held a news conference yesterday to announce the decision. The Lakeshore’s Denise Turner says both sides are glad the partnership will continue another decade…..
It’s official … the name… U.S. Steel Yard … will remain on the home of the Gary South Shore Railcats for another ten years.
Joel Palaschak,Community Affairs U.S. Steel Coordinator: We are very proud to have it named U.S. Steel Yard.
Kevin Spudic, Gary Shoreshore RailCats President/GM: We knew deep down we wanted U.S. Steel back and we’re glad U.S. Steel wanted to be back and have their name attached to this beautiful stadium.
U.S. Steel has held the naming rights to the ballpark since it opened in 2003. Community Affairs Coordinator Joel Palaschak says that alone paved the way for a smooth negotiation.
Joel Palaschak: Being that we had the naming rights in the past, it was a matter of sitting down, looking at the original agreement and figuring out what parts worked and what didn’t.
The Railcats’ Kevin Spudic says the relationship between the organizations works because each understands the other’s goals.
Kevin Spudic: It was very important to us to find a company that valued our values as the railcats, the baseball team, the stadium.
Joel Palaschak: this is very important day for us to continue that effort to bring Championship caliber baseball to the city of Gary.
Both entities say that now that the naming issue is behind them… they can look forward to a great future of entertaining residents with the best baseball in the region.
