Railcats Swept in Lincoln

August 11, 2013 – Bryan Pounds hit three of the Saltdogs five homers as Lincoln (44-37) completed a sweep of the RailCats (46-34) with a 14-4 decision on Sunday evening.  Lincoln had a pair of five-run innings in the ballgame as the RailCats were swept for the second time this season. They’ve also lost each of their final five match-ups with at Haymarket Park. Pounds got the first run of the day with a solo homerun in the second inning off RailCats starter Alain Quijano. Lincoln’s offense continued their assault on RailCats pitching with a five-run third. Yasel Gomez and Mike Coles singled to begin the inning. With runners on the corners, Quijano delivered a wild pitch to score Gomez. David Espinosa then grounded out to second to move Coles to third and the center fielder scored on Curt Smith’s sac fly to center. With a 3-0 advantage and two out, Ian Gac and Brian Joynt each singled to bring up Matt Forgatch. Forgatch then pulled the first pitch he saw from Quijano down the left field line for a three-run homer. It was the third three-run homer Quijano has surrendered against Lincoln this year and it gave the Saltdogs a 6-0 lead after three. Quijano was removed after five innings. He took his sixth loss of the season and surrendered six runs on nine hits; including a pair of homers. The loss dropped the RailCats eight games back in the central division and brought Lincoln within two and a half games in the wild card chase with 19 to play. The RailCats have an off-day on Monday then will begin a three-game set with the Central division-leading Wichita Wingnuts on Tuesday.
