Purdue Trustees To Review New Name For Purdue Calumet-PNC
July 18, 2014 — The Purdue University Board of Trustees meets this morning (8:30 a.m. ET) in the Stewart Center on the West Lafayette campus, and one major agenda item deals with Purdue University Calumet and Purdue North Central.
President Mitch Daniels will talk with the board about a resolution creating a new name for the consolidated campus — even though both the Hammond campus and Westville campus will physically remain in their current locations.
Purdue Calumet Chancellor Thomas Keon and Purdue North Central Chancellor James Dworkin introduced the plan to reporters in mid-March to combine administrative functions and academic oversight of the two schools.
Discussions about a new name for the combined Purdue Calumet-Purdue North Central have been going on for months in committees and informal talks on both campuses.
Chancellor Keon says the complete integration of administrative functions and academic oversight will take up to two years.
The Purdue Board of Trustees will also consider a department name change in the School of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences and two master of science degree programs at Purdue Calumet, and an interlocal transit agreement for Purdue North Central.
