Purdue Calumet, Ivy Tech Sign Agreement
Purdue University Calumet and its Department of Behavioral Sciences has developed an academic agreement with Ivy Tech Community College, effective this fall, that allows graduates of Ivy Tech’s Associate Degree in Early Childhood program to enter seamlessly into Purdue Calumet’s Bachelor of Arts in Human Development and Family Studies, Early Childhood Development specialization.
Purdue Calumet officials say many who work in early childhood settings are eager to increase their knowledge and credentials in the field, and this agreement allows that to happen. Ivy Tech officials say it also helps them on their goals to improve college completion rates among northwest Indiana residents.
Margaret Semmer, the vice chancellor of academics for Ivy Tech Northwest, said the agreement with Purdue Calumet will enable our early childhood students to complete their degrees in less time. The percentage of northwest Indiana counties with adults 25-64 with a college degree is below the state average of 33 percent.
