LAPORTE — The LaPorte County Commissioners say they kept an open mind when Great Lakes Basin Transportation Inc. proposed ending a Wisconsin-to Indiana freight railroad line at Kingsbury Industrial Park, but they now join their colleagues in Lake and Porter Counties in opposing the proposal.

The president of the County Commissioners, Dave Decker, was on “Regionally Speaking” on Thursday to explain why the board voted “no” to supporting GLBT owner Frank Patton’s proposal, and how they are taking advantage of existing major railroad connections to the industrial park.  The GLBT pr0posal faces stiff resident opposition in all three counties.

LaPorte County is now asking the Indiana Economic Development Corp. for financial assistance in bringing the Canadian National and CSX tracks — which currently terminate at each end of the industrial park — into the facility.
