Proposed New K-12 Academic Standards Released
February 20th — The draft college and career ready standards, released late Wednesday night, outline what K-12 students should know and learn in English language arts and math at each grade level. According to Indiana Public Media’s Elle Moxley, educators who worked on the standards consider them a hybrid of the Common Core expectations and Indiana’s prior academic standards.
The 98-page document’s release kicks off a three-week period for parents and educators to offer feedback on proposed standards.
State Board members will attend a series of public meetings next week to gather comment on the new standards. The deadline for public comment is March 12th. The State Board of Education will vote to adopt the revised draft standards at the April meeting.
