Preparing for Politics That Determine Policy
November 15, 2013 — Organization Day for the 2014 legislative session is Tuesday, and lawmakers are gearing up to tackle new issues.
Members of the Indiana Chamber of Commerce gathered at the Northwest Indiana Forum today to preview the upcoming legislative year.
The Chamber outlined a list of hot topics it expects to be priorities in the 2014 legislative session.
Among those listed, energy and the environment were key concerns.
This month, the Indiana Chamber Foundation commissioned a study about the state’s water supply. The Foundation says boosting water supply in some areas can facilitate economic growth.
Chamber officials say legislation to promote alternative energy options is also very likely, and local government reform to enhance transparency for residents got some attention today. A proposed “gateway portal” would give citizens access to information about local government meetings.
