Power Line Risks Follow Utility Pole Impact
January 3, 2014 by Jerry Howard
Jasper County Rural Electric Membership Corporation (REMC) is advising people who slide off the road and hit a utility pole to stay in the car, call 911 and tell them about hitting a utility pole.
It wants people to assume that any low-hanging or damaged lines are still energized with high voltage.
REMC is a not-for-profit Touchstone Energy electric distribution cooperative based in Rensselaer, Indiana whose member-owners are part of the Chicago, northwest Indiana and Lafayette areas. Its facebook page has information about extended outages at https://www.facebook.com/JasperCountyREMC.
