Poverty Summit Draws Region’s Diocese Leaders

Northwest Indiana Catholic Church leaders were part of a statewide poverty summit that was being held Friday on the campus of Notre Dame University. The summit drew more than 100 leaders from across the state to examine the issues about poverty in the state of Indiana and to brainstorm strategies about poverty reducction.
Bishop Dale Melczek was accompanied by 14 other representatives of the Catholic Diocese of Gary from Northwest Indiana.
The group from the Region collaborated at the summit to discuss systemic issues of poverty unique to Northwest Indiana and how to overcome those challenges.
