Porter Police Investigate Apartment Burglaries
People in a Porter County community are on alert after a recent spike in crime. The Lakeshore’s Renetta Dubose talks with a Porter Police detective about the rash of break ins and thefts in the area.
Renetta: Police in Porter are investigating why multiple units in Orchard Apartments on Waverly Road … were burglarized early this week. Detective Corporal Jason Casbon issued a report stating when the resident inside an apartment with a 600 address arrived home … the victim noticed the rear sliding door was partially opened, with pry marks around the latch. The victim reported a video game machine … a DVD and money missing. A second unit with a 700 address was also burglarized. The resident called police as two subjects ran from the home. Casbon says the location of the burglaries does not surprise police.
Porter Police Cpl. Jason Casbon: It’s the area where we have the highest concentration of people.
Renetta: Police here in Porter say crime has increased with the warmer weather. and as summer approaches … residents should be more careful.
Jason Casbon: keep house locked and vehicles and lock outside storage area.
Casbon is also investigating theft from three automobiles on the 1,000 block of Beam Street. He says some people have reported broken windows in the past … but others simply leave their cars open, believing that no one will do wrong in a small town.
Casbon: A lot of people still have that point of view. Keep your house and vehicle locked.
Casbon says now that it is warmer, more police will be patrolling the Orchard Apartments neighborhood and other highly populated areas. In Porter, Renetta Dubose, Lakeshore News.
